03. The Book of Exodus

The second book of the Bible recounts the founding act of the people of Israel and the Jewish faith: God descended into Egypt to powerfully liberate his enslaved people and lead them to a land of freedom. This is as decisive an event for the Jewish faith as the resurrection of Christ is for the Christian faith. It is no coincidence that the feast commemorating these two events bears the same name: Easter. During this quarter, we will contemplate the liberating God, the God of the Jewish Passover, and the wondrous stories of God's mighty acts, the crossing of the Red Sea, the proclamation of the law on Sinai, and the construction of the tabernacle, where the liberating God comes to dwell among his people. And even in the darkest moments, such as the episode of the golden calf, God's grace and mercy are revealed.

04. The Book of Joshua

The story of the Israelites' conquest of the land of Canaan may seem anachronistic today, and in some ways even contrary to the values ​​the world urgently needs today, such as peace and coexistence between different peoples, cultures, and religions. Yet, this story contains themes that remain highly relevant today: the courage to face the most difficult challenges by trusting in God and his promises, the ability to discern sin and turn away from it, the renunciation of idols and all forms of idolatry, community solidarity, and justice in the distribution of land and wealth. These are all themes that still challenge us today and that daily confront us with the most decisive choice of our lives: "Choose you this day whom you will serve... but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord" (Joshua 24:15).
